About Sphere
$45 trillion of retirement savings in the U.S. alone are forced to invest in fossil fuels, even though they've had the worst returns of any sector of the economy for the past two decades. While 81% of people are worried about climate change and want to do something about it, they're also required to vote their shares against common-sense climate improvements at the biggest companies in the economy, even though voting in favor of those shareholder proposals could set up companies for long-term success in a rapidly changing world. Sphere has spent the past four years getting on all major 401(k) platforms, including Schwab, Vanguard & Fidelity. Now we are seeking a DCIO Sales Lead who can drive distribution of both our flagship product and upcoming TDF suite across the defined contribution landscape, with a focus on 401(k) advisors and consultants.
Role Summary
As DCIO Sales Lead, you will lead Sphere’s growth in the institutional retirement space by building relationships with key stakeholders across the DCIO ecosystem. You will own consultant and advisor outreach, making sure anyone who gets a request from a client for a climate-friendly fund comes to Sphere. This is a rare opportunity to join a high-impact, outcomes-oriented team at a critical inflection point, and to help shape the future of retirement investing.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Sales Strategy
- Develop and execute a go-to-market plan for Sphere’s products across the DC/401(k) landscape.
- Establish and grow relationships with:
- Investment consultants (e.g. Callan, CapTrust, Mercer, etc.)
- 401(k) plan advisors and aggregators (e.g. Creative Planning, HUB, OneDigital, etc.)
- Plan sponsors, especially mission-aligned or climate-focused companies.
- Drive Sphere’s central office approvals with advisory firms.
- Identify high-opportunity early adopters for Sphere’s new products prior to full 3-year track record maturity.
Client Relationship Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for institutional DCIO relationships.
- Partner with internal and outsourced resources for lead generation and appointment setting.
- Coordinate with marketing to ensure compelling, tailored materials for each audience.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, compliance, and leadership to ensure high-touch client service and seamless onboarding.
Thought Leadership & Advocacy
- Represent Sphere at industry events, retirement forums, and ESG/impact investing conferences.
- Serve as a trusted educator for prospects seeking to align fiduciary duty with climate action.
- Translate climate investment strategy into consultant- and sponsor-relevant language.
Qualifications
Experience
- 5-10 years of DCIO or institutional asset management sales experience.
- Demonstrated success in getting funds approved on major consulting and advisory firm platforms.
- Extensive experience selling strategies into the DC marketplace.
- Familiarity with ERISA requirements, plan design, and fiduciary frameworks.
Skills & Attributes
- Mission-aligned: you believe in bringing climate transparency to core portfolios.
- No-nonsense builder: you like to win as a team, lead with clarity, and get the job done.
- Trusted relationship builder with long-term focus.
- Skilled communicator—able to navigate conversations with CIOs, consultants, and plan sponsors.
- Entrepreneurial and proactive — comfortable building processes and relationships from scratch.
Education & Licenses
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or CFA a plus.
- FINRA Series 7 or 63/66 preferred.
Compensation & Benefits
This is not a typical DCIO role. We are building a new standard in sustainable, scalable index investing. You will be a key partner in helping shift billions in retirement assets toward climate-positive portfolios, while working with a nimble, principled, kind and high-performing team.
Compensation is commensurate with experience, with a salary range of $150,000-200,000 + bonus incentives and equity ownership in Sphere, a high-growth VC-backed company. Sphere offers a benefits package that includes healthcare, vision and dental benefits, as well as a 401(k). Additionally, Sphere offers unlimited PTO and a remote-first, inclusive work environment.
Equal Employment Opportunity
At Sphere, we are committed to providing an environment of mutual respect where equalemployment opportunities are available to all applicants and teammates without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, military and veteran status, and any other characteristic protected by applicable law.
